The Ba Gua Master -An Actual Prophesy

The fortune teller sat behind his heavy wooden desk... as mentioned, there were indeed heavy volumes of imposing looking encyclopedic-looking hard-cover books, spines embossed with gold characters on the shelf behind him (shelf covering the entire wall). His office was located in an older part of town on the third floor, with a window on the left side overlooking the street. The desk was a typical high-school principal desk, being of dark carved wood, top covered in green felt and overlaid with a heavy clear plastic protective sheet. At his left was a black square plaque like object with a compass in the middle and chart-like markings encircling it - some kind of astrological graph. The fortune teller himself was old, maybe 60 or more, but his skin was smooth like that of a much younger man. His teeth were all intact and white, except for tea stains at the corners. He wore the gray simple shirt with mandarin-type of collar producing the same feel as the garments worn by Chinese and Korean monks. He did indeed wear wire -framed spectacles.
I am guessing when Kamal received his fortune, it happened thus: He asked the fortune teller a very specific question... the 26th hexagram did NOT govern his life as previously supposed. The fortune teller, with slow movements, removed a small incense burner from the top right drawer of his desk and broke some coils of incense into it. I remember seeing larger versions of these coils in temples in Macao... they hang from the ceilings of temples and carry your thoughts to the heaves on the smoke. The incense in this case, was to remove any bad spirits, etc. Also from the same drawer, he took out an empty tortoise's shell and proceeded to bathe it in the smoke from the incense burner. After this was done, he did the same for his Yi Jing (I ching?) coins. Finally, he placed them inside the tortoise shell and shook the shell, finally casting the coins onto the desk. He did this 6 times to form the 6 lines of the hexagram.

Da Chu: the 26th hexagram.... the meaning of this is NOT GOOD! Ba Gua is the result of a kind of Chinese binary language that can be used as a tool to determine what the forces of nature predict.... Yi Jung, Feng Shui, etc... Each "gua" is made if three "yao" symbols... lines that are either whole (yang) or broken (yin). Yang is the sun/the masculine and yin is the moon/the feminine. The basic is 8, numbered from 0 to 7. After arriving at the character, the fortune teller drew 2 perpendicular lines and wrote out 8 gua around the axis. He then circled the top one (in the North position) and the one that would be in the Southeast position. If you were to think about this as a clock, the North is also noon... where the yang is at it's height. This is where this prediction starts. It then ends in the South East.... It hasn't even made it half-way around the circle... Yin is stronger here. At this point, the fortune teller told some story about the sun and the moon... and about how the wolves howl at the moon and cannot live under the sun. Like the wolves, the answer to the question is not something that can live under the sun/yang. That means that the answer to the question is "NO." The seeker of answers (Kamal) should not aggressively pursue this direction (aggression/action are related to yang). If the question was more general (for example related to path in life/career), then the seeker would be well advised to spend more time in meditation and passive pursuits... monk-hood/study of Ba Gua/the bible etc.

The fortune teller then took note of Kamal's date of birth. The years are in cycles... one cycle of 10 and one of 12... If you were to match them, then the same combination of two "years" would only occur every 60 years. To tell you about your immediate future, the teller finds the combination for the date you were born and matches it with the combination of the current year. (Each year is matched with an element). Kamal was born in a metal year. This year is a wood year... for some reason, wood years are hard for those "metal" people... The ill fortune would have begun in January and culminated in the summer. After that is not sure. To be honest, the fortune teller looked a little ill at ease after looking up these dates and so a lot of information was not forthcoming. The other problem was that Kamal was not sure of his time of birth.
